402 Reflection

I remember the at our first class meeting Kat asked us why we are taking the course. Most of us answered that is was a prerequisite course for our majors. A couple of other said they were curious or that it was the only class that fit their time schedule. I myself falls into the prerequisite group, not knowing what to expect and if I would be able to use anything I learned from this class. In our first memo, I remembered stating my lack of experience in professional writing or any other type of writing for that matter. Fast forward ten weeks or so, I found my perspective on writing to have changed dramatically. All the memo updates we turn in each week help provided me with practice for my personal research paper. Through constant and thorough feedback, I also noticed how the voice/tone in my writing changed to a more formal/professional approach.
Aside from the memo writing, I also found the in class exercises to be a great application tool. The exercises allow us to take in the information, understand it, and apply it to a certain scenario. I thought this was much more effective than just an 80 minute lecture where students will probably take in the information and won't be to understand or apply it to anything.
I also thought that the variety of guest speakers was a good touch. Their various professional and personal background showed me just exactly how broad and open a professional writing career can be.
